New E-Resource: Vogue Archives (ProQuest)

Now available:

Vogue provides a record of American and international popular culture; a unique primary source for the study of fashion, gender and modern social history. Marketing students can research the history of a brand identity by viewing every advertisement for a brand such as Revlon, Coty, Versace or Chanel between specified dates. Researchers in cultural studies and gender studies can explore themes such as body image, gender roles and social tastes from the 1890s to the present. The latest issue will be added each month with no embargo period. Users can search through all text, captions, and titles throughout the magazine, including advertisements, covers and fold-outs.

If you have set up a MyWilsonWeb account to save searches and records, you should know that MyWilsonWeb accounts will be eliminated. Any saved searches or records will be lost. Now that the databases have been moved to the EBSCOhost platform, you can create a MyEBSCOhost account and recreate your saved searches there.

You can access your saved MyWilsonWeb searches from the following URLs until 12/31/11.

The Yearbook is a database of detailed profiles of more than 60,000 international organizations in all disciplines. Active, inactive, and dormant organizations are included, as well as both non-governmental (NGO) and intergovernmental (IGO) organizations. The database covers 300 countries and territories, and includes approximately 1,200 new entries each year. Besides physical and virtual contact information, each record details the structure, staff, languages, finances, aims, activities, events, publications, statistical information, and analyses of the organization. Records can be formatted into Excel, CSV, and Word. (Updates every 6-8 weeks)

Hearings (ProQuest Congressional)

Published and unpublished hearings from U.S. Congressional committee hearings proceedings. All hearings contain the full transcripts of the proceedings, including all oral statements, committee questions, and discussion. Published hearings also contain texts of related reports, statistical analyses, correspondence, exhibits, and articles presented by witnesses or inserted into the record by committee members and staff. OECD iLibrary

OECD iLibrary is the online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. It includes 20 book collections by theme, 24 periodicals, the OECD statistical databases, and the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals. Publications can be accessed using the list of categories on the OECD iLibrary home page or they can be found by using a keyword search. An “advanced” search feature allows for searching of journals only. (Updated daily)

Mac Users and EBSCOhost PDF Problems

I have been hearing that some Mac users are having problems viewing PDFs from within EBSCOhost databases. I apologize if you have been frustrated by this lack of functionality and offer this solution: download the Schubert | It plugin.

Ebrary is a collection of thousands of online full text books and other materials in a variety of subject areas. The ebrary platform requires browser plugin software (the ebrary reader) to access these titles. Ebrary’s default screen, called Quick View, allows instant viewing of documents in your browser. To print, copy, or use other advanced features you can use the InfoTools menu from Quick View, or launch the ebrary Reader (recommended). Printing from the ebrary Reader will result in better print quality. The Plug-in Reader (Windows, Mac): Simply click the “ebrary reader” button to install and launch.
